Bay City Commission Decides Privatizing Bridges

It’s true that the US bridge infrastructure is in a bad state for a long time!

For the growth and development of every country, transportation infrastructure matters a lot.

Thus, whenever it needs improvement, it has to be on time. Sadly, the current state of bridge infrastructure in the United States is defunct and obsolete. The major reason for this situation is insufficient funds.

Similarly, the two major bridges of the United States named Independence Bridge and Liberty Bridge need serious repairs.

But, now the government has started privatizing bridges. Privatization means public-private partnership! In this partnership, a public entity and a private entity work together to solve the infrastructure crisis of the country. Undoubtedly, it’s a great solution. With this partnership, the problem of funding will be resolved forever.

Thus, many private bridge infrastructure companies have come forward and proposed to take charge of the reconstruction of both the bridges, on December 7.

In the proposal, the company has offered to:
  • ·          Buy both the bridges
  • ·          Refurbish both the bridges
  • ·          Reconstruct Independence Bridge
  • ·          Get reimbursements to the Bay City for repairs
  • ·          Keep both bridges open to traffic till the time Independence Bridge is constructed.

The two bridges in the Bay City named Liberty and Independence are on the way of privatization. The bay city commission approved the agreement to sell these two bridges to a private bridge company named United Bridge Partners.

Three private bridge infrastructure companies proposed for these bridges and finally United Bridge Partners was approved by the bay city commission. The commission had signed an agreement with the transportation infrastructure company regarding funding and development.

The agreement states that United Bridge Partners will invest in the city up to $250,000 in legal fee reimbursement. Then, the company will take care of the repairing cost of the two-bay city bridges - Liberty Bridge and Independence Bridge.

These bridges will not be constructed as a normal bridge. Tolls will be executed after the construction for both Independence and Liberty bridges is completed according to the plan proposed by United Bridge Partners and approved by the bay city commission.

The initial toll pricing costs for individuals are as follows:
  • Bay City residents with a transponder: 50 cents per crossing. Starting in 2028.
  • Non-residents with a transponder: $2 per crossing. Starting in 2024.
  • Three or more axle commercial trucks and 2-axle commercial trucks with a trailer: $8 per crossing.

For bay city residents below the poverty guidelines, there will be no toll!

These poverty guidelines came inaction by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Soon, these two bridges will get a new face!

United Bridge Partners is a well-known private bridge infrastructure company in the United States. The company invests private capital for solving infrastructure crisis across the United States. The company owns and operates private toll bridges. Currently, United Bridge Partners is working on Cline Avenue Bridge. Soon, the bridge will open for traffic in 2020.
